MooreTallThe BioHealth Capital Region Forum had the honor of hosting Maryland Governor Wes Moore, who addressed attendees at the 10th Annual event held at the US Pharmacopeia (USP) in Rockville. Prior to his speech, Governor Moore met with a select group of local leaders and industry experts, including Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Rich Bendis, President and CEO of BioHealth Innovation, Inc., Ronald T. Piervincenzi, Ph.D., CEO of USP, Peter S. Briskman, Executive Managing Director of Brokerage at JLL and others.

Governor Moore’s attendance underscored the strategic importance of the biohealth industry to Maryland’s economy. His participation signified the state’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of biotech innovation, supporting the growth of life sciences companies, and fostering partnerships between government, industry, and academia. By engaging directly with industry leaders, Moore highlighted Maryland’s pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare and biotech.

The audience was surprised as Governor Moore entered the auditorium to kick off the Forum. BHI President and CEO Rich Bendis kicked off the day by thanking Ronald T. Piervincenzi, Ph.D., CEO of USP, for hosting the event for the third consecutive year. Dr. Piervincenzi then introduced Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, who welcomed attendees to the county, where the event has been held for all ten years. Elrich emphasized Montgomery County’s role as the heart of the BioHealth Capital Region before introducing Maryland Governor Wes Moore. Governor Moore greeted attendees, highlighting Maryland’s importance in the biohealth sector and the significance of the region in advancing the industry.

During his 10-15 minute speech, he emphasized the critical role Maryland plays in the biohealth industry, and how this industry, in turn, significantly contributes to Maryland’s economy and growth. His remarks highlighted the state’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration in the life sciences sector.
